Why do I have to come to work to rest??

My weekend is Sun and Mon. Sun. I spent most of the day at my SIL's house helping get it ready for her to get moved back into later this mo. I vacumed so the carpet cleaners can come next week, mopped the BR and kitchen. Have a carpenter coming in to re-caulk the floor tiles, and re-do the dryer vent. Some yo-yo had vented it into the garage. The painting is all done. Not exactly happy with his work, if I had the time, I could have done every bit as good a job. I paid him a little extra to have his kids rake the yard and bag up the leaves, granted there was alot but the job is not finished so just said to heck with it. When you want something done it is usually best to just do it yourself. So will finish up that job after work today.
On Mon. went to Ar. to visit with daughter, and went "shopping". Ended up back in Mo and went to the local college that was having a book sale and got some more nice nearly new ones there.
On Sun. I stopped at a garage sale and got a cute little sewing table with a chair in nice shape. wooden too. for 10$ Gave the chair to my grand daughter and brought the table into the store. Lets see I also took a dresser and coffee table and end table to the daughter and brought home a kitchen cabinet to repair for her.
It needs alot of TLC. She was about to throw it out, I said let me fix it. so did some work on it last nite, glues some strips around the bottom, tightened up alot of screws. Sanded the drawers and so far have 3 coats of bright yellow pain on them. It will be useable and clean when I am done. So now I have her cabinet held hostage till she comes up next week to pick it up! There is a method to my madness.

Hubby still in Nv. All is well at the farm. Over 2 inches of rain last week, hope the freezing at night is over. I brought home several free dogwood trees from the fish hatchery Sat. Would like to see the trees and shrubs that got leaves frozen off have a chance to leaf out again. Maybe I can stay home next weekend and do some things for myself that I have planned. Sort of spring cleaning projects!

Happy Birthday big sister, Glad you are in my life! Oh, I promise no more relatives have birthdays any time soon. Well ther is my son in May. :) :)

What a busy weekend. Did some things Sun afternoon to get the house ready that Hubby's sister will be moving into at the end of the Mo. Took a twin bed over so she will have a place to sleep while waiting on the movers. The painter is about finished up at the house and had extra paint that we took back to the store. Then we went home and started mowing and raking. The freeze this last week did quit a bit of damage to tender leaves.
On Mon. finished mowing and got the horse and donkeys hooves trimmed up. Wish I had taken a video of Flossy getting her hooves done. Last fall they just sat on her to do it as she was pretty small yet. Those little hooves really grow out fast on those babies. But this time she needed a little man handling. The guy had to put a nose cinch on her. Hated to see it but it calmed her down and he got the job done as we could not hold her. He made a loop out of the lead rope and slipped it thru the halter and over her nose so when she pulled she squeezed her nose and had trouble breathing. Sounds cruel but it is effective. Sampson the horse was worried about her as she is his "baby" and he kept coming up close to see if she was OK.
The horse and the adult donkeys are real easy to do and stand still just fine. So I guess I better get busy with a little more training with Miss Flossy. He suggested I start tying her to the post with the lead rope and let her stand for an hour or 2, to learn what being tied means. I have a short video of her eating spaghetti that I will have to post one of these days.

Took Hubby to the airport real early this morning. Like 3AM. He had an early flight to Nv. and we are over 2 hrs from the airport. So he will be in Nv. helping get his sis packed up and drive her back.

Yippy so that means I am footloose now!! Ha, I have several work projects to get started on, so will keep busy, nothing like last time he left town, unless the carpenter gets time to start my kitchen counter top. hmmmmmmmm....:) :)

Happy Birthday Big Brother

Today is my big brothers birthday. He lives very far away. Thanks to cell phones and computers we are better at keeping in touch the last few years. Of course our lives have slowed down alot to and that makes a difference. If I can find a certain picture of this brother taken many years ago I will post it. If you click on the picture you can see what a baby he was when he joined the Navy!! Was that back in '02? So Happy Birthday, wish you were here so I could spank you!! :) :)

Yesterday we were resting on the deck after some very hard work, sipping some ice tea, and a mocking bird was in a tree just a few feet away and singing his head off. I tried to do a little video of him and have downloaded it just below. Sorry you can't see the bird in the tree. We do enjoy them when they come to nest in our yard. After the babies are grown they all seem to fly away and are gone till the next spring. We enjoy the songs.

We cleared alot of tree limbs off the hay field that fell over from the timber. What wonderful work, makes you feel alive to get out and sweat a little. Hubby got his first tick of the season, Ouch. I hate those little suckers!

A fellow blogger friend recently posted about how our jobs are being sent out of the country. It was a very good post. Anyway it reminded me of this picture I had saved. When I was helping my brother with his new computer this winter I think this is the guy we talked to!!

Hubby is safe home from his trip. I think the dog missed him the most!! At least she fell all over him and whined alot. I was a little more reserved. LOL
He has one more trip to make next mo. to fly back to Nv. and help with the rest of the packing for his sister, then drive her back after the movers get loaded up.

The carpenter is pulling things all together. Got the vanity set and water and drain lines hooked up, and hole cut for the sink. All he has left is the tile around the baseboard and tile the counter top.

Bro. helped me Sun. and we worked our tails off. Got the carpet squares laid in the bedroom and the "dressing room/closet" sure looks nice, and new baseboards and door trim. Sat. I stayed up late to paint the closet and the bathroom. Also ran to Lowes to pick up the windows that we ordered. We will get to them after the bathroom is all done.

Whew, I think I need some plain old yard work now. Still raking up small limbs from the ice storm. Found my first tick yesterday, or I should say he found me. He was walking up my pant leg. So it reminded me it was time to put the tick/flea stuff on the dog. We use the monthly thing and it seems to work real well.

Well I have a special picture to post tomorrow. I forgot to bring the camera to the store so will do that later. Best get back to "work" and sell some books. Have a set of 16 Louis L'Amour books on E-bay that I am watching. Bidding is going up----Yahoo for me.

Often we fear the unknown and worry about what others think to be able to get into this stuff. Just keep an open mind and watch for the synchronicities.
And remember there are no coincidences.

This guy was walking along and saw a little mouse in the ditch. He grabbed the mouse real quick and held him up and said "I'm going to jerk your tail off" and he preceded to do just that. Then he said "now I'm going to bite your ear off" and he preceded to do just that.

Well this police officer happened along and saw what was happening and he said. "The next thing you do to that little mouse, I am going to do to you!"

I found this site from something on TV. Worth checking out if you are like most of us, battling the bulge. 3fatchicks.com Looks like there is some good stuff to filter out there. For myself I just try to concentrate on eating healthy stuff. Anyone tried the new flat bread, whole grains, come in a nice size, about 4 in by 8 in. Made a wonderful pizza crust, I added a couple spoons of sauce, crumbled browned ground turkey, lots of cheeze and baked about 15 min. till bubbly and brown. Can add what ever. Also makes a great roll up for sandwich. I am having a hard time even looking at white bread now. Well I just don't. Keep a loaf of "my" bread in the freezer and just get out one slice at a time for toast. The light Yoplait is only 90 to 100 ca. and a good treat.

But I have to share one sinful thing I found. sort of sinful. I bought an anglefood cake to have for a little desert with fresh strawberries. Well I ran onto this receipt. Slice off a couple pieces of cake. Then melt a teaspoonful of butter in a small skillet and brown the cake. Really!! Then make a cream cheese spread. I like cream cheese with tiny bit of vanilla and brown sugar. Makes a sort of carmel dip for apples. Was wonderful on the cake. So ya gotta try something new. Who wudda thunk!!

May The Bird of Happiness Fly Up Your Nose!!

The blue birds are back and checking out their old nest boxes. I just love them. Also the mocking birds are mating and looking for nesting places. Last year they nested in the grape vines and in the honeysuckle. I about drowned some babies when I was spraying Mircle Grow with the hose on the honeysuckle. Reminds me of the time I lived here before and I was fertilizing a flower bed with the miricle grow and noticed some movement and looked down and there was a nest of baby bunnies, all wet!! Didn't seem to hurt them, always wondered if they grew bigger than usual. You Think???

As promised here is an updated pic of Flossy and her Mommy, Jenny. I don't think I mentioned that when we had Jenny looked at by the ferrier in Jan when her feet got so sore from the ice that he looked her over and checked her teeth and told us he thought she was more like 20 to 25 years old, not the 15 that we were told when we bought her. So she is pretty old to still be having a baby, no wonder her back is so swayed. But she is so gentle and sweet. So is Milly her "12" year old daughter. hmmmm, wonder how old she really is?

Now Flossy is a little stinker and I hate to admit that I have not worked with her much. I have insisted that she wear a halter and I take ahold of it when I am out there and work with leading her. Mostly we have them to keep the grass down in the lot next to the house that is about an acre, saves us mowing it. But on impulse we bought this big horse at the same time and he eats all the time so we had to open a strip of the pasture up for them to graze. Still thinking about selling him. But he is such a sweety. Did anyone play the video I loaded here? Scroll down a way and see it.

Work on the house is progressing. I, {did you get that I?} drained the water heater this morning. The contractor guy is starting on the floor tile now. Going to pull the potty and try to get that corner all done today, I said I can do without hot water for a day or so but not the potty! Plan to get the bedroom painted this weekend, Carpet will be in by Wed. So that is coming together. Have the trim and new door in the garage, so need to prime and paint them.

Have a great weekend. I plan to. Taking one day off to go to Ar. and make rounds to see family.

Dog Whisperer

Since I am on a little roll about pets. Has anyone watched the Dog Whisperer? He is on the Natl Geo Channel.Awesome!! I love this show. Man, with a little hiss sound and snap of his fingers he has mean dogs under control. He stresses that dogs are dogs and not people. He actually trains people and rehabilitates dogs. That is his quote. Dogs that have a pack leader, PEOPLE, are happy dogs. They don't have anxiety and behave badly when they know who is the boss. And we really should not, NOT let the dogs be the boss.
{clears throat} Not that any of us do that, right? I just said recently that after 8 or 9 years now our dog has us about trained.

Its been real funny doing the chores alone. When hubby does them the dog goes everywhere with him and she gets to carry a glove back in her mouth and then gets a small treat. Well the weather is warmer now so no glove. Do you think she wants to go out to the barn with me? Only about half the time, when she wants to poop in the pasture! No glove, no treat, why bother? But fetching mail is still on the agenda. Fetch a piece of junk mail, get a treat, nice mommy.

In the picture of her above, you can see the boo-boo on her eye brow where the baby donkey, Flossy kicked her last fall. Flossy still chases her sometimes, but the dog has gotten smarter and runs to me for protection. The kicking up of the heels has about stopped as Flossy has gotten older. Will have to post a new pic of her. Does anyone know a Donkey Whisperer??

2. If you don't want their hair on your clothes, stay off the furniture.
(That's why they call it "fur"niture .)
3. I like my pets a lot better than I like most people.
4. To you, it's an animal. To me, he/she is an adopted son/daughter
who is short, hairy, walks on all fours and doesn't speak clearly.

Remember: In many ways, dogs and cats are better than kids because they:

Eat less
Don't ask for money all the time
Are easier to train
Normally come when called
Never ask to drive the car
Don't hang out with drug-using friends
Don't smoke or drink
Don't have to buy the latest fashions
Don't want to wear your clothes
Don't need a "gazillion" dollars for college.

And finally,
If they get pregnant,you can sell their children :-)

Whew! Had to come to work to rest!

Below are 2 pictures of the projects going on. One is of the bathroom tile over the tub. Still a work in progress. Have a pro doing this job. The other is the adjoining bedroom. The red ribbons is to keep "little" brother from hitting his head on the light fixture, {again}. When we lived in this house before, about in 1990 to 93 we did alot of remodeling and we had this room paneled to cover old walls. Well the "brothers" who owned the house last wall papered it, and a crappy job if I do say so. Yes I do say so! Anyway before they papered they painted the ceiling and slopped paint on the paneling. I really didn't want to remove the paneling so I stripped off the old paper, ran caulk around the ceiling, patched all the holes and have one coat of primer on. I found the paint that I think will look great. It is called sandstone. IT is textured, like sand. I have the carpet squares ordered. Bro. is putting down the underlayment today. Went to Lowes yesterday and ordered the new vinyl windows for the bathroom and bedroom. Plan to get them all replaced thru out before the year is out. I ordered custom sizing so they should be easy to replace the old ones and not mess up the woodwork. Picked up the new BR vanity and medicine cabinet and light and floor tile. Whew! That was the fun part! Wish I were alot younger I would have gone to school and learned how to be a REAL carpenter!! Think I would have liked that better than nursing.

Oh, I changed my mind, {you know I am allowed to do that} The wall is staying between the little dressing room and the bedroom. Cost was a factor and I really like that little room with a small window in it. makes a nice place to iron. Going to just enclose the closet that is at one end of it. and tore out the little open closet thing that was at the other end. Will make a nice place to put hubby's desk.

So thats it for now. Going to put the last coat of primer on tonight and will have to make another trip to town to get the paint. Thought I could get it cheaper at Walmart but they only sell it in spray cans. Did you know that Walmarts paint is good stuff. Valspar and some other quality brand, They just package it under Walmart name. I have used it for years and now I know why I like it so much.

Ok now I am ready to get busy. Hubby always knows that when he leaves me alone I do something to tear up the house. At the present time I have the carpenter redoing the bathroom. Will post a before and after pic when he is done. Hubby knows I am going to tear wall paper off the bedroom and rip up the carpet, but,,,,,,,,, he doesn't know I am having windows replaced and move one wall!. See there is a big sort of dressing room at the end of the bedroom. By taking out the wall and putting a closet in across the back wall it will open the room up and it will be about 12X18. As we do work on an area we are taking out the old windows that we put in about 15 years ago and putting in vinyl ones, The metal frame ones drip all winter. I am headed out tomorrow to get the bathroom vanity. When we did the bathroom 15 years ago we put in all blue/gray fixtures,tub, sink and toilet. Am going with a nice clean white, and a pretty tile for the walls. I want to do the bedroom floor myself. Looking at the new 24in. carpet tiles. Think with a little coaching I can do that.

So have lots of work to do. Plus take care of the horse, donkeys, chickens, and dog. Gee piece of cake!!

Oh, didn't mention where hubby was going! Silly me. He is headed out to Nv. to help his sister with packing up. Then will fly back out middle of next mo. and be there to help her with the movers, then drive her back in her car. AGAIN.. We just did all this last year at this time. But she had to go back out to Nv. and try it on her own. She just wasn't ready to make that move yet. Lucky her house didn't sell here so she can just move right in. Have had a painter working in there doing some repainting of all the rooms for her and that will make her happy.

So there you go. Lets see where did I put the motrin??

OK, do I believe?

My last post triggered a question of my opinion on the topic of UFO's. I have read quite a few books on the subject, and I have to say that it is very compelling. I like to read books on the metaphysical and paranormal. Guess that's really 2 different subjects, but what I am getting at is that I keep an open mind. I really believe that the mental capacity that we use is so tiny compared to what we are meant to evolve to. So are there aliens helping us to evolve. I sort of like to think so. I think what makes be believe in UFO's is that we have to be very smug to think that this huge universe could only produce one intelligent species, come on! Our world is like a tiny grain of sand in the grand scheme of things.

So I keep an open mind and try to fill it with stuff and learn all I can in this life. Now as for the next life, that will have to be another post. Hint: Of course we have been here before and will be again.

Could UFO's realy save the world? See the story!

OTTAWA (AFP) - A former Canadian defense minister is demanding governments worldwide disclose and use secret alien technologies obtained in alleged UFO crashes to stem climate change, a local paper said Wednesday.

"I would like to see what (alien) technology there might be that could eliminate the burning of fossil fuels within a generation ... that could be a way to save our planet," Paul Hellyer, 83, told the Ottawa Citizen.

Alien spacecrafts would have traveled vast distances to reach Earth, and so must be equipped with advanced propulsion systems or used exceptional fuels, he told the newspaper.

Such alien technologies could offer humanity alternatives to fossil fuels, he said, pointing to the enigmatic 1947 incident in Roswell, New Mexico -- which has become a shrine for UFO believers -- as an example of alien contact.

"We need to persuade governments to come clean on what they know. Some of us suspect they know quite a lot, and it might be enough to save our planet if applied quickly enough," he said.

Hellyer became defense minister in former prime minister Lester Pearson's cabinet in 1963, and oversaw the controversial integration and unification of Canada's army, air force and navy into the Canadian Forces.

He shocked Canadians in September 2005 by announcing he once saw a UFO.

Darn Pushy Horse!

I wanted to share my row of birdhouses I made for gifts for our family reunion. I am using photobucket to add this picture. As you can see from the pictures, the little houses are decorated with license plates and recycled siding that I spray painted, and even the pepsi emblem that I cut from a can. Makes me want to get back to the saw and my favorite tool, the electric staple gun that shoots little 1 1/4 in brads. Great for these little projects. I don't recommend the foo foo stuff for the little porch if the house is to be used outside for real birds. My brother has had a family of house wrens live in his the last couple years right on his back porch. I like to collect birdhouses too. One of my favorite is in my store now, an oriole nest that the ice storm brought to the ground. It looks like the perfect little bird cradle. A fantastic creation of weaving of twigs, horse hair and even some fishing line. I will take a picture of it and post it soon. So now if I make some more birdhouses I plan to make little back doors on them so that I can open them and clean out for them. Have lots of bluebirds that nest in our yard.

Where did my tax refund go??

Lowes got alot of my income tax refund yesterday!! New bath tub, some purty tile for the walls, and accessories to go with the new wall, corner shelves and towel rod to be worked in with the tile and new faucet fixtures and a new hand held shower. Got a pretty tile that is sort of sand colored with little darker flecks and swirls, and the grout is a sand colored. (figured the soap scum wouldn't show up as bad)
When we get that all done will start on a new vanity and sink, not sure if we will continue the same tile for the counter or get a pre-made top. THEN after all that I hope to move on to the kitchen and do the counter with a new sink and faucets.
So there is my project list for this spring. I hope my carpenter will be speedier than when he did the breezeway. But he did an awesome job connecting the house to the garage with this big roof. Hubby says we should put a cross on top and hold services under there!!

Bro. came out yesterday and cut a nice hole in the closet floor and framed in a good access for working under the house. The previous access was this small opening from the outside that would only let a fairly small man to get thru there. You notice I said "man" I'm not going under there!!

Bro. and I are conspiring to do our own renovation while hubby is away in March. You know when the cat is away the mice will play. Going to move all the bedroom stuff out. So I can tear off all the wall paper and rip up the old carpet. Will have to put down new plywood flooring then I want to look at the new carpet squares for a do it yourself project. Anyone had any experience with them? Looks cool. Not the old peel and stick that they used to sell. Then I can take the old closet "shag" carpet out and continue the new stuff thru there. Oh, and hubby really doesn't care. He likes to let me do pretty much what I want with the house, just don't move his stuff around in the garage to much!!! Last time he was gone I sort of cleaned the garage and he claims he can't find stuff. Well just because you aren't tripping over it doesn't mean its not there somewhere.

Spring is on the way. I am ready to get out and dig in the dirt!!

There is no question about it, dear Aquarius, you have been working hard these last few weeks. As an approaching deadline looms, you may find yourself waking up at night, running numbers through your head and mentally rewriting project proposals. It's exhausting, to be sure, but know that the end result will make all this aggravation worthwhile.

Well since I just had my taxes done this week, I think this fits very well. Looks like I might be able to go ahead with remodeling my bathroom!!

SOLD, to the lady in the front row!

I just made my first E-Bay sale!! I listed it one week ago and the auction closed yesterday afternoon. I had put a min. bid of $1.00 on it, and on the second day I got a bid to cover my min. I thought "hey this is OK" No more bids till about 2 min. before my time closed and I got 6 bids and sold it for $3.28 plus the $3.12 for shipping and handling. Of course E-Bay will take a small cut of that but I was excited. Now I see my act. has been paid so will get the book wrapped up and kiss it good-by.

Well gotta run. Have a couple books I want to get listed today!!!

What is the Book Lady reading?

I finished 2 books yesterday. Woman on the Edge of Time was very interesting. Didn't end very clear so was a little disappointed in it. Then I finished A Dean Koontz book, The Face of Fear. A good read, not like his other books I have read, It was more like a real mystery with the bad guys chasing the good guys and you know who wins in the end, right? Still reading a Sara Davidson romance, Cowboy. It is my treadmill read for now. A silly romance that isn't bad.
Getting ready to start a Nicholas Evans book. I am sure I won't be disappointed as he is such a great writer. This one is The Divide. I still want to read The Horse Whisperer, I was told that the movie ended much different than the book, so have to read it and see. I caught the tail end of the movie on TV the other night. Oh, that Redford!!

My sister is trying to get me into quilting, I think I would like it and have done a little of it in the past. I could set up a table here in the store and sew between customers, but then how would I read all these books? But I would feel more productive if I did something other than read. So I am thinking I will give it a go. I have been collecting denim pieces for along time as I think I would like a quilt of denim with the seams on the outside all frayed. I saw one in Park City Utah one time that was just awesome. They had stitched pieces of jeans onto some of the blocks, like a belt loop, or pocket.

The weather is teasing us with a little warm up. So glad, as I am anxious to get out in the flower beds and sunshine. But keep the wood box full as it will get cold again I am sure.

Oh, one more thing, I sell my first book on e-bay today. I was surprised I got a bid on it right away. I am getting my feet wet in this areana. Have been ordering books for folks who don't want to do it themselves and I charge a small fee for handling that. It has been working pretty well. I think I have ordered 7 books in the last couple weeks. It is fun to help them find what they want if I don't have it. So I have been taking pictures of books this week so I can post a couple more on e-bay. Wish me luck.

He's giving it away because his wife says the dog 'stares' at her when she is undressing ,

and that gives her the 'Heebie Jeebies'. I think she is just weird !

My Prison Experience

A fellow blogger asked me to do a post about my experience in prison. Gotcha!!

Actually I am an RN and worked at a mens prison in Nv. for 7 years. It was definately the highlight of my 33 years of nursing. I worked OB most of the time, during the first10 to 15 years. I had my first experience with inmates while I worked at a Nv. hosp back about 1985. At that time the local prison had female inmates and when they would have a pregnant inmate they would deliver at our facility. Yes they did shackle them to the labor bed and the delivery table and an officer was placed outside the door. I remember thinking this was rather barbaric, where were they going when they were trying to push a baby out! But having worked on the "other side of the fence" so to speak, no literally, I can see the necessity. There has to be standards. I know now that inmates are classified with numbers that indicate their risk for violence, or an excape risk. This no. will indicate the level of security required. But to my knowledge when they are off the prison yard there is still a pretty high level for all.

Years later when I worked at the prison we did not have women there, but there was a period of time that we housed about 50 or so at one unit, temporarily. Well ended up being over a year. Since I was the "yard nurse". It fell to me to make rounds daily to that unit and answer complaints, do nursing assessments, and order treatment and care that I was allowed. Mostly all they wanted was laxatives and hormones. When they complained about pimples, I had to blow them off. Their presence took up about 2 hrs. of my time daily out of 8 hrs. that had already been very busy, doing sick call to the lock down units of a couple hundred men and the work camp that joined the main prison. I was so glad to see them all transfered elsewhere. Oh, I forgot after I did it for about 6 mo. they assigned a nurse to handle just the women, 8 hrs a day!! Well I didn't begrudge her the job. Women are the worse, whiney complaining critters.

I got to use my OB experience once with a gal who claimed to have her water break and no labor, so since I had experience they sent her to the clinic for me to see and examine. No one else there, even the dr. didn't know how to examine a laboring patient. Well she was really in labor with ruptured membranes and gross leakage, so it was a no brainer. BUT, See this is how one could plan an excape if not monitored, claim water broke, no labor, but would need to be sent to hosp, and maybe have a boyfriend waiting in the hall to wisk her off to a car and gone. So these are reasons that there has to be security measures.

Some of the women were in for crimes of violence, but a huge number of them were for drug related offenses, 1. theft to support habit 2. selling drugs 3. buying drugs 4. prostitution to earn money. Even in a state with legal prostitution, you can't just work on your own. Alot of the time the women are there because of bad boyfriends or husbands. The guys are the drug dealers and the women get sucked in and when arrests are made they go down with the guys. Did you know that if a member of your family is dealing illigal drugs out of your home, you stand to be arrested and jailed even if you didn't actually buy or sell. I am pretty sure I am right about that. Someone correct me if not.

Well long story, but that is my experience with women inmates. Now I will have to do another post or 2 about the men. They are a long story, or many stories. I rather enjoyed taking care of them, and never felt threatened,{well there was that one guy} I had something they wanted, medical care, which means medication!!

Happy Valentines Day to all,

I enjoyed my day off Monday, even though it was cold and rainy all day. At least we could be thankful that the rain was not freezing to ice. I headed out early and went to Ar. to spend the day with my favorite daughter and go book hunting. Both ventures were very successful! We had a good time even though she was coming straight off of working 12 hrs. Don't know how she does it. Guess at her age I was doing the same kind of thing. Glad I don't do that any more.
I came home with about 100 books to add to the store, so that was good.

Business is good some days and not so good others, but guess that's the way it goes. I still keep busy. Have opened an act. with Amazon and with E-Bay. Have several books listed on Amazon now and will get my feet wet with the other this week. I watched a set of 103 Louis L'Amour hardback leatherette books sell for over 400$ And another set of 109 books for over 500$. I have over 80 of them, I thought I would get them listed as soon as I am sure I know what I am doing. I don't usually deal in hardback books, but bought these up on a good deal from a young man wanting to unload them. And I have started ordering books from Amazon for customers and adding a couple dollars fee on for the service. Shoot I even got a box of candy bars and put on the counter to sell. Oh, and I got one of the real estate plastic boxes for flyers and put out by the front door and made up new flyers to keep in it.

Bang head, repeat, repeat, repeat.

Do you ever feel that life is just alot of repetition? Last nite as I got into bed, as I had the dog move off the bed onto her own doggy bed, then snuggled down to put my feet in the nice warm spot that she left, I thought to myself that these little rituals repeat themselves over and over. It just seemed like I just did that same act a few minutes ago. Maybe its getting older that makes you aware of this. I don't remember thinking about this when I was young. Maybe our lives settle into to much routine as we get older. Guess that's it.

Maybe that is why my hubby always get excited and starts planning weeks ahead of time when he is planning a hunting trip or just a trip like the one coming up next month, to drive back to Nv. to help his sister get ready to move. Again!. Yes, if I hadn't mentioned it she is moving back here again. I sure hope it will work out for her this time as we just can't keep doing this. I am almost ashamed to say that it has been nice to have her so far away since last July. She does take up alot of my hubby's time and energy. But he has developed alot of patience with her the last couple years, that I sort of admire.

Whats in your Car?

After this incident with the female astronaut, I got to thinking, Whats in Your Car or Trunk?
If, God forbid you got arrested, what do you haul around in your vehicle that could look incriminating? You know innocent things like duct tape and a rope would look pretty bad. I do carry a small hunting knife in my console, along with some old aspirin, pill bottle full of quarters, plus who know what all else. You know you are never innocent till proven guilty anymore. Well at least I don't carry any pampers.

Donkey update, Our old girl with the sore feet is doing better. Still hurts me to watch her walk. But she goes out into the pasture every day, and the ground is softer now. The farrier came and checked her out and trimmed a little on the hooves, but thinks she just had sore "frogs". That is the part just under the front of the hoof that takes alot of pressure right up into the foot and leg bones. So we are just waiting and will see if she will heal up on her own. They were funny to watch them when it was so sunny in the afternoon, all four of them, the horse and 3 donkeys all flaked out in the pasture like they had all been shot, soaking up the sunshine. All were laying close to each other. We are thinking of selling the horse. He is just to expensive to feed to have him for just a pet. It was an emotional spur of the moment thing to buy him. He is such a sweetheart. I should try to post the video of him rooting hubby's pocket for horse treats.

By Golly I believe I have it! Man I am a slow learner, but this picture was taken on day 2 or 3 days of freezing sleet in Jan. There was a short break between storms. So glad it is all melted and gone. My critters say thanks too. Caught them all in the pasture yesterday and it looked like they had all been shot. Everyone was laying out flat soaking up the sunshine.

Reba, Reba

Anyone watch Reba's sitcom? I never saw it when it ran originally, but have gotten hooked on watching all the re-runs now and hate to miss it. I think she is great and sort of my role model. Wish I had her wit and sarcasm. Well maybe I do, but it never comes out when I want it, you know how you always think of the right thing to say about 2 in the morning?? For the most part, I find TV pretty worthless. I could live with out the 100+ channels. Heck you can't find anything to watch most of the time. I end up hitting the discovery channels to see whats on. Some times I think people carry on about alot of the shows just to be part of the crowd.

Oh, Flossy is learning to Hee Haw, I have heard her twice now. Her mommy has really sore feet from walking on all the ice and frozen snow, and I caught Flossy trying to coax her to come out in the field with her Sun. We were out trimming big tree limbs in their small pasture next to the house. What a mess. We will be all spring getting all the limbs hauled to where we can burn them. I wish my back would hold up and let me just stay out there all day. I love it. I am a great brush stacker!

Well the sun is shining today and it is nice and warm, like around 60 or more. I like that!!

Well, what is the book store lady reading today. At home I am reading a James Michener book. Journey: it is about the Gold fever of 1897 in Canada at the Klondike gold fields. Its about 4 English aristocrats and their journey across Canada to reach the gold fields. True to Michener's style it is a very vivid novel.

At the store I am reading a very different book. Woman on the Edge of Time, by Marge Piercy, it caught my eye because it involves visitors from the future, 2137. The main character is a hispanic, very poor woman who has had the worse that life can heap on her and while in a mental institution she is mentally transported to this future world. She is actually very sane but caught up in this whole system of the mentally insane. Very interesting read.

OK, I do believe I have it!

I deleted the huge picture and figured out how to make it the right size, Yea, for me. Cold, cold, cold today. But sun is shining and I survived the big birthday, so life is good.

Been working hard on eating better, so that is my goal for my life now. I am avoiding all processed stuff and white stuff. Eating whole grains, fruits and veggies. Breakfast is a small bowel of Old fashioned oats,(looks like horse oats) with 2 tlb ground flax and 6 olmonds, ground also, with soy milk and equal. That has become my staple to start the day. I should add some fruit yet I believe. Will try adding some frozen blueberries or strawberries. I am trying to eat every 3 to 4 hours. so I make either a protein shake and put in my thermal cup, or scramble 3 egg whites with 2 yolk, and that is my snack for late morning, then a salad with tuna or left over meat about 1pm. Then veggie, salad, and grilled meat for supper. I throw in a yogurt somewhere in afternoon or evening. Been drinking lots more water and less coffee, and cut the ice tea, Have at least one cup of green tea. So it looks like I am eating all the time, I don't get hungry. And I feel good about it. Hubby informed me we are eating out tonite, so I will just have the chicken salad, and a cup of yogurt when I get home with a hot cup of green tea. Also been faithful on the treadmill every morning, or at least 5 times a week.

So that is my anti-aging battle plan. At this stage I am more worried about my health. I have tried other eating plans over the years to try to lose a few pounds but this feels right to me and a better way to eat. It is not called a diet. Just a better way to eat healthy. I took alot of my plan from Bob Green's book. He is the diet guy on Oprah. It is just being more sensible on choices.

Now Just how sweet is this? I can always count on a beautiful card from my hubby. He comes from the generation of men that find it hard to express how they feel sometimes, so his cards always express how he feels in his heart even though he may not say alot of things out loud. We always know when we are loved. :)

Is it just ME?

I just tried to upload one of my own pictures and it just doesn't work. The one from the last post that uploaded OK was a picture I imported from the net and had it stored with my pictures. Now if loaded, why won't my pictures load? I even opened a new blog on Wordpress and it wouldn't let me import my files from the New Blogger. So that didn't work. I do have another blog site in My Spaces and I can post pictures on it. But not sure I want to keep up 2 blog sites. And I really like this one and have been posting for a LONG time. Darn. Well I will stop complaining. Yea, like that will happen right?

Had a good weekend, hubby took me out for a great sea food lunch Sun for my birthday, which isn't till later this week. Went shopping and ended up buying a new cook stove, with alot of neat bells and whistles. On Mon. we hauled more hay for our 4 legged friends, (that I can't post pictures of) Hubby trying to get me stocked up on stuff as he will be taking a trip in about 4 to 6 weeks. Seems his older sister is moving back to Mo. again. If you read me much you know that when we moved here last year, we moved her also. She is a widow and it was just to soon after her husband died for her to make that big of a move, She was here only a couple months and hubby moved her back to Nevada. Now that she has been alone since last Aug, she realizes we are her only family and she knows she needs to be closer to us. So her house here hasn't sold yet and she will move back into it for now. Probably look at moving her at least one more time if she finds a senior park somewhere that she would like that is close and takes care of the lawn and is just for seniors. Sort of a gated community. You know thats where us baby boomers need to be investing our money. Building these senior communities. When we get to be 80 we aren't going to want to live in neighborhoods with kids running around. Besides no yard work will give us freedom to travel and chase the young guys.

Well thats my thoughts for today. Stay warm. :)

Dreaming

Ever wake up from a dream and it seem so real for about 10 minutes at least?? Like dreaming is another parallel life that just might just be as real as the one we just think is real.

I woke up dreaming I was in this big class room, like a nursing seminar {I have attended many of those} But I walked thru a doorway into a sort of lobby and there was a counter and a couple "nurses", one that I knew at last job, Mary, and they were doing something illegal, like loading booze or something like that out of a trailer onto this counter. And I was there to sort of watch for the guard that had left the area. But I saw her{the guard} coming back and I just sort of acted innocent like I didn't know what was going on. So the others got caught and their license suspended and they thought maybe I was involved but I played that I really was just in the wrong place at the wrong time so I got off. But I woke up feeling very guilty because I really was sort of the lookout, but I got off the hook. Wonder what that was all about?? I am sure the guard was from my last job working in corrections, and this Mary was one of the worst nursed I ever worked around. And I just got my license activated for this state, even though I said I wasn't going to do that and never go back to work for anyone again. But I have it "just in case"

But I find dreams interesting and they are very vivid to me, often waking me up to lay awake and try to go back into the dream to fix things or at least make it end better.

Recovering

The sun is shining and it is to be in the 40's today. Yippy!! We are so ready for some sunshine.
Most of the ice got melted off Sat. then we had a cold rain for awhile Sun. But lucked out and no more ice. We did end up loosing power Fri. Am and was back on by Sat afternoon. So that was minor to some folks who are still with out power since the 7th of Jan. Sister finally got power on Sat nite and able to move out of the shelter. But she ended up sick and spent a couple days in the hosp. She is back home now but they have colds now. Stopped by briefly this morning with a pot of Turkey soup and farm eggs. It will take them awhile to get recovered.

It is good to be back at the store and business as usual. Spent Sun. in a cleaning frenzy. So glad to get all the buckets of water out of the house.

Thinking of switching my blog over to Wordpress. I am tired of dealing with this blog site since there seems to be a problem with posting pictures. Wish I knew if others that use Blogger have this problem and if they were able to fix it. Anyone??

Please no more sleet and snow!!

It is Sat. morning. We lost power at the farm yesterday morning and it is still out. We have been so lucky since there are so many folks that have been without power for a whole week now. With the sunshine yesterday and the melting we got, we were able to catch some water from the downspouts and fill the horse tank. That will help us hold the rest we have in reserve for flushing the toilet. We came in town today and showered at bro's house. And we have a generator that is finally coming into good use. So we can run it every few hours and keep the refrig and freezer cold. We have propane for cooking and a wood stove for heat, so we are in good shape. The weekend looks stinking so we will see what we get now. I feel so sorry for the folks that have been out for a week. Big sister stopped by the store today, they are still staying at the shelter and she went over to bro's house to shower too. She says they are warm and being well fed. I sent a couple boxes of books over to help them have some to share around. That must be so boring to sit in a shelter, but the company is nice for alot of folks.

Well this blog site won't let me post pictures. I have alot of good ones I have been taking. Darn Blogger. I am seriously thinking of changing. Can I do that and transfer all my posts with me?? Anyone know. I have had this site for so long I just hate to just close it and start another one. Sort of my baby you know?

Well hope everyone is staying warm and safe. Think I will go sit by the heat and read a book till the snow starts to fly then I am out of here.

Missouri looks like a war zone!

When I closed the store Fri. it was sleeting and I figured I wouldn't be back to town for a few days. Well here it is Thurs and I am back at the store and am open for business, even though I will be surprised if anyone comes in. We had sleet in 3 waves, Fri nite, Sat, and Sun. I took pictures on Sat. before the worse damage at the farm, so will have to take a few more pictures. We live about 3 miles out of town and were so LUCKY that we did not lose power. I can't believe it. Our county and the surrounding counties to the so. of us have all been out of power, most at least 4 days. Some are back on line now but still alot of folks without power.
We have kept buckets of water ahead in case we lost power as we would not be able to pump water from the well if power failed. I now know it takes 4, 5 gal. buckets of water for 1 horse and 3 donkeys a day!! But we have a wood stove and stayed snug and warm. Others in the family have not been so lucky. Bro. in town was out of power for 4 days but he did have a heat from a ventless gas heater so he was able to stay warm and had city water. He has an older couple who lives next door that had no heat and he is on O2 and not well, so they sort of moved in with him and slept on his recliners for 3 nites. Also a neice, husb and 2 girls spent a couple nites there. During all this time the roads were awful and the sleet kept coming daily so we had to stay put. Sister and husband in town 10 miles away had to go to a shelter, which was good for them as they are warm and being fed well. We have National Guard in the area, helping cut trees from the streets and roads. The highways are clear but all back roads and streets are ice covered. And I mean ICE, I was cutting footsteps in the ice to make it safer for us to get from back door to the pasture and it is about 2 inches thick. To walk across the pasture to the barn is like walking on a frozen pond. Lucky the critters can stay in the barn most of the time.

Our trees are decimated. Thank God we had a tree trimmer out this fall and he trimmed several trees and topped 2 big ones. But everything else has been topped now and they look bad. Sat. nite we stood out in front of the garage and just listened to the timber fall. We have about 10 acres of timber and we could hear a tree top falling every few seconds. Of course not just ours but all around us, as the sound traveled. Sounded like a war zone might sound. Last evening there was still some falling. The ice is still there as it has been cold and now we are to get a snow fall this weekend. I just hope some of the ice gets melted off before that. We are to get temps in the high 30's the next couple days. So that is all the news, all weather. I am at the store and had to clean the little refrig where the little freezer defrosted, but that was minor. I had heat here as I have a little gas heater for heat.

I will try to load a picture, it will just show a small amount of what we have as it was taken before the last day of sleet. WELL SO MUCH FOR THIS STUPID UPDATE OF BLOGGER. I TRIED TWICE AND CANNOT UPLOAD PICTURES AGAIN. WHAT IS WITH THIS.??

WILL THE MOVIE BE AS GOOD AS THE BOOK?

Just finished a good book recently and now it is a movie. How cool is that? I really enjoyed the book. It was a futuristic book about what the world would be like if no more babies were born. The setting is when the last children are 25 and the world moral is really bad. It has a great ending. Now I have to see the movie. The Children of Men.

OK maybe Dell is not so bad

Got the replacement tower from Dell for the malfunctioning New computer that was ordered for little brother. Got it hooked up and on line and seems to be running OK. Yea!!

Gotta grip about a dumb neighbor. Across the road from us is a guy who is single at the moment, but that has nothing to do with this dumbness, well on second thought maybe it does.
Anyway he is in construction and has 5 acres that he tries to raise goats on. They are no trouble to us, sort of fun to watch the babies. Well in his infinite wisdom Mr. Neighbor got a cute Pyrenees pup, I say pup, but he is already big. Anyway he brings the dog home and just puts it out in the pasture with the goats, like it is supposed to bond with the goats and know what its purpose is. It is my understanding that you do raise these pups with the herd of goats or sheep, and they bond with the herd and will stay in the pasture to protect them as they feel they are their family. But I think you do this in a barn to start with. Well this poor pup doesn't know all that yet. I woke up at midnight hearing him howling, then this morning watched him go under the fence and head up the road. I didn't care if it was 7 AM on a Sat. I sure miss being able to post pictures here. Have tried several things and nothing seems to help. So will wait awhile and see if the problem resolves. Tomorrow is a birthday for someone special to my heart. So if you want to click on Cindy at the right and wish her a happy birthday that would be cool.
I got to bring in the new year with 3 teenage grand daughters. That was fun. Man those girls can snore!!! They are city girls raised in the country, so gathering eggs and petting the horse and donkeys was a treat to them. We made homemade turkey noodle soup and cornbread for supper Sun. then on Mon AM made sausage and eggs, {hand picked by the girls} and crepes,{I think I am spelling that wrong, but you know those little thin pancakes} with homemade peach jam. Then we made a big pot of chili with elk hamburger. They were game to try anything. Ha Ha, guess they trusts their grandma to not poison them. We came into the store so they could gather up some more books to "borrow" and use the computer. The oldest one is getting ready to graduate from high school this spring and making college plans. Boy seems like yesterday she was still in diapers. How did I get to have grand daughters this old?
Had a good day with the store yesterday so now that holidays are over maybe things will pick up and I won't have to go out and get a REAL job. I SO don't want to do that. I love my little store, it is my home away from home. I am excited everyday to come into "work". I am trying to get that word out of my vocabulary because it is not work. At least I don't think so.
I hope this will be a great year for everyone, I have very good feelings about it. Well I think I need to make a little coffee. Cheers!!

DELL WHO???

I have to tell you that Dell Computers are on my Poop list. And they will be till our little romance with the folks in India is over. I helped my brother buy a new Dell desktop. It arrived on the 19th. So we get it set up and try to get on line. Well the system was like you had poured molasses into the modem. I mean the longer you tried to navagate the worse it got. So we called Dell Tech support which of course is in India. Bless them, now they all have jobs, taking care of all us American dummies with faulty equipment, but I digress. To make a reallly long story short, I have spent 4 evenings at my brothers house, talking to different techs, because you know they can give you an extention to talk to the same one next time, but that goes into a voice mail and they don't call back, or when they did they called and left a message on my store phone and not the no. I gave them WHERE THE COMPUTER LIVED! My last conversation Wed evening this week was the last straw. On Tue we had done a factory restore and thought the problem was solved, but NOOOOOOOO, then we still couldn't get on line. So Wed. I talked to a NEW girl, and actually had to dismantle the computer and remove the modem and re seat it just in case that was the problem. Well NOOOOOOO that wasn't it. So lets just get you to customer service and send you a new tower. OK that is good. So after a couple more calls and disconnects we have a new tower coming this next week and will ship the old one back. Well I sure hope it works. One of the nice features on the new computer is to burn DVD's and I want to use it, since I have a big investment in this thing. My new years resolution is to transfer about 8 years of digital pictures off of floppy disce, Oh yes remember those?. I am putting them onto my computer and making CD's then would like to trans to a master DVD.

I wonder how many pictures you can load onto a computer before it crashes????

HELP

Has anyone else switched their blogger over to the new version? I did, now it is signed in thru google. Seems OK. Can't see that there are any benefits though. But big problem now I can't add any pictures, either thru the blog itself or via Picaso that I use. So what gives here? Anyone out there have the same problems. I even tried to do a system restore to go back to the old version and it wouldn't let me do that. So I guess I am stuck unless I figure out how to change the whole thing over to another blog server. I might do that if I thought I wouldn't loose my year plus of blogging posts. Any suggestions??

Now that I have updated this blogger as suggested my the master of bloggerland, I can't upload any pictures! GRRRRRRRR... Why do we get these darn updates when they just seem to give us grief. I kick myself everytime I accept an update on a program.

A LITTLE OF THIS AND A LITTLE OF THAT

Haven't posted any thing for awhile that was very meaningful, so thought I would just put some of my musings of this last week down.

First off, Dell is on my baddy list. I helped my brother order a Dell desktop computer and by day 2 of ownership it is working like a snail, I mean 5 minutes to get a screen up. Got on the phone last nite with "India" tech support. Spent 1 1/2 hr of my cell phone air time while she kept walking us thru steps to help her identify the problem. Finally the cell phone went dead. When I called back on the reg. phone, of course I got a different person, but at least they have us with a case number and I am to call them this evening and he promised he would help fix it. Going to do a restore back to factory settings and start over. Maybe they will just have to send another computer, because this is sure not acceptable.

We are siting eagles. Have seen a beautiful bald eagle flying over, there is alot of timber in our area and bluffs down by the creek about 1/2 mile from us. Today I saw a golden eagle in the pasture, it was spotting some skinned creatures that someone dumped out by the stop at the end of our road, which is also the end of our pasture line. I looked at them yesterday, they are 3 skinned raccoons. Only way you can tell is by their feet. Uck. I told hubby he needed to go down and scoop them up and at least throw them out in the field {across the road, of course} so that a coyote can have dinner, instead of waiting for the vultures to start landing.

Business has been slow this month. I had thought that winter would bring in more folks wanting to buy books. I seem to have regular customer who come in every couple weeks. The county newspaper was supposed to run an article about the store, they did the interview the end of Oct. and took pictures but still haven't run the article. I have a call in to ask them if they lost me.

I did something I said I would NOT do. I sent in and renewed my Mo. RN license. Ohhhhhhh, I don't want to go back to a real job...... But am thinking of doing a little PRN work for a local home health agency on Mondays, when the store is closed. The little extra might help me from dipping into savings. So I have the application sitting here on my desk and procrastinating on filling it out.

Also have been doing some researching on selling books on line. I have looked at Amazon and Ebay so far. Anyone with experience in this it would be awesome to get some input. I have bought a couple books and a CD on Amazon recently and it went so smooth, I was impressed. I am not an on line shopper.

Having daughter and grand daughter come spend a few hours Sat in the store with me. That will be fun. Hubby out buying a "fresh" turkey today for me to bake for Xmas. Want to stay home that day. Feel sorry for all the folks in Denver area!

OK I have my update done, now will see what all the fuss is about.

Switching to new version of Blogger?

Well hope I have not messed up, but I clicked on switching to new new updated version of Blogger, so we will see if it works OK and all my stuff got switched too. See I am a big chicken when it comes to changing stuff. I sort of like my stuff left alone, but don't want to get in the headlong rush to keep up with technology and end up loosing my STUFF.

A crabby old man

When an old man died in the geriatric ward of a small hospital near Tampa,
Florida, it was believed that he had nothing left of any value.

Later, when the nurses were going through his meager possessions, they found
this poem. Its quality and content so impressed the staff that copies were
made and distributed to every nurse in the hospital.

One nurse took her copy to Missouri. The old man's sole bequest to posterity
has since appeared in the Christmas edition of the News Magazine of the St
Louis Association for Mental Health. A slide presentation has also been made
based on his simple, but eloquent, poem.

And this little old man, with nothing left to give to the world, is now the
author of this "anonymous" poem

3 # BRAIN?

A fellow blogger posted, no, bragged, that she had lost 3 pounds last week, then mentioned that she had also lost her mind and that probably her mind weighed 3 pounds.

WELL GUESS WHAT??

The brain does weigh about 3 pounds, but I just found {synchronicity?} in my reading Carl Sagan's book while on the treadmill this morning that the average brain does weigh 3 #. But what was the most interesting was that if all the fluids were removed, you know like dehydrated, your total mass would be about the size of your NAVEL!!!! Now isn't that just a hoot? Oh, I think I sprained my brain!

Well what is the book store owner reading now. Seems I have 2 or 3 books going at a time. Just finished Johathat Livingston Seagull. What a great little book. Now I am collecting all of Richard Bach's books. Just started his book "One". Also I have started a Carl Sagan book and am finishing up Dean Koontz's, From the Corner of His Eye, Great book. I think my daughter has finally got me hooked on his books. Of course I still have a pile that I keep putting aside to read.

We are finally starting to thaw out. Got about 2 in. of ice and sleet then 8 in of snow on top last week. Had to stay home Thurs, and Fri. along with most everyone else in the area. But it has been melting and roads are clear. Put another log on the fire!! 

Fluffy Critters

Well we got snow. About 8 inches of it, on top of a freezing rain. Am thankful that we could just stay home and keep the fire going and keep warm. Of course these guys needed a little TLC. Sampson, the big guy here says "Where the heck did my grass go?" Now if we could just find that darn tank heater. But guess we will have to buy a new one today. Got to go to town and stock up of grub.

Shed a little tear for the puppy

Coming into town this morning I saw something that made me a little sad. I saw a dog on the highway that had been killed by a car probably this morning, but what caught my eye was the rest of the family sitting off to the side on a little rise about 15 ft from the highway. It looked like the Momma dog and the rest of the litter, all sitting exactly the same and looking at the dead pup. Made me get a little catch in my throat just seeing them like that, like they knew. I have seen this "pack" of dogs for several weeks, and think they belong to a home back in the trees. This is the 2nd on to get hit in this area. They are just mixed breed mongrels. In this part of the country people let their dogs run loose, or they will confine them in small pens. Don't know which is worse. Well this was a site that I won't forget, wonder how long they will sit there??

God must love stupid people, he made so many of them

Does anyone else hate the Sonic commercials besides me?? How ignorant do they think we are out here. I could barely tolerate the woman and man, and now there are 2 men and it is so stupid, I hit the mute every time I can reach the remote. While I am at it the other comercials I truely hate is Carl Juniors, with their piggy eating styles. THATS supposed to intice me to come eat there. I think not. That was one reason we refused to eat there. OK there is my complaint for the day. Maybe I can find their web sites and tell them what I think, hmmm think they will care? Doubt it.

Jewlery for Flossy

Flossy has a bright new red halter!! A little different putting a halter on a long eared donkey than on a horse. She is getting to be so sweet. Loves to have her cheeks rubbed and her butt. She is about 4 months old now. Got to start teaching her to lead.

Well we did our first "senior" bus trip Sat. Can't believe we did. Went to Branson and saw Shoji Tabochi's christmas show. He does a wonderful show. Have to tell about the bus ride though. It was quit plush and would have been fun, except we got this old gal behind us who NEVER shutup the whole trip!! She had a loud enough voice that at least 2 seats all around her had to hear the same stuff. I now know all her family history, where all she lived, and medical history. Oh, and learned how to make cream puffs!! Now it wasn't all a waste. Not sure we would do this again for awhile. We like our own transportation and to be able to go where we want to. But it was an experience for sure. 

What makes us who we are?

Have you ever thought about what it is that makes us who we are? I mean really what is IT? You see people born into the same family that turn out so different. Why?
Is it Nature or Nuture? Is it the genes, DNA, that we inherit or the influence of how you are raised, combined with exposure to outside factors that mold us? I guess I tend to think it is a mix of both, but then I like to throw in the free choice that we have going for us. And what about predestination, I still believe that we chose the paths that we follow. I think that explains why some of us have such hard lives and some have easy times. There is Karma thrown in there. So this is a long explaination for why I am going to post this thing that I wrote over a year ago and had posted on my old blog site. I liked it then and still like it. I would love to see other think of what it is that makes them who they are and write something similar. Thanks for listening....

Monday we hiked up into our woods to post some no hunting signs and I saw for myself evidence of fairy invasion in our woods. Just look at these pictures closely and you can see their little private swimming pools 

  

  

If they could talk

I brought 2 old tins of my mothers buttons in with me today to the store. I have had the tins for at least 40 years. They are green tobacco cans. SAIL aromatic pipe tobacco a product of Holland. They have screw on lids. These were tins that my mother saved buttons in. Back in her day and my earlier day, if you threw a garmet away or made rags out of it you cut the buttons off and saved them for future use. I found some really interesting buttons. I dumped them out on the counter and as I pushed them around and looked at the interesting shapes and colors I just thought, "these buttons really hold so much history" Can you imagine the little tiny pink ones were on some dainty blouse and the huge black ones must have come off of a coat. I could tell my contributions to the tins, as they were those extra buttons that come attached to a blouse or pair of pants. Did anyone ever actually use any of them. I don't think so, I think that if I lost a button, I dug around in my sewing machine box and found one that would work. Usually it was single buttons like on a pair of pants so there was no matching. And those little swatches of yarn, never used them either.
Well if these old buttons could talk, wouldn't they have a story to tell.

Wanted to share the beautiful fall colors here in the midwest. Went to Branson over Sat. nite. Was perfect weather. Saw a great show at Pierce Arrow Theater. The second pic is taken from my front yard, looking up to the bluff. The wagon is our little donkey wagon, need to load some hay in it and decorate it, maybe next year I will do that.
