Classics??

I am looking for some help out there. I know you are there, I see you lerking around. :)
I am wanting to read the "Classics". I know I have missed out on alot of them over the years and since I didn't take regular college courses I didn't have to read them there. I am trying to compile a list of what would be consider "Must" reads. I have pulled some from my book shelves to start a list. Any input from folks who read me would be appreciated. Tell me what your most Favorite book is. I really don't want to read Shakespear but maybe Mark Twain, Pearl S Buck, and who else? Will look forward to some feedback.

To Kill a Mockingbird is the only
classic that I can remember after 42 years that I liked.

Or are you asking for any book someone considers classic? Because If I had to go to a desert island and take only 5 books with me, none would be from anyone I read during school all those years ago.

Johnny, if you come back to my site, tell me what 5 books you would take to a desert island.

The Lord of the Rings- Tolkien
(ok its 3 books, but i'm sure I could find some damn bound edition of all three and slide by under the radar of the rules here and have it count as 1 book, hehe) Simply put, he is one of the best story tellers ever.

The Stand -Stephen King
I'm not a huge King fan, and dont read a bunch of horror. But this has got to be considered one of the best books of the last 30 years.

Dune - Herbert
The movies did this book no justice. If you are not a big sci-fi fan you will still like this book. (My wife did, and she hates sci-fi. But she asked me once what my favorite books of all time were and read them all.)

Still pondering my last 2 picks....
